My five-year-old is starting school. How can I boost her immunity?
Boosting the immune system may sound desirable, but it can also be responsible for allergies, asthma and inflammation. Indiscriminate immune boosting can aggravate, or even cause these problems. Furthermore, continuous immune system stimulation can actually result in immune system burnout.
In addition, most immune boosters are made from herbal extracts, some of which are not safe for children under seven. Immune protectors, rather than boosters, are the safer option – they are milder and protect the immune system from malfunction or damage. Opt for nutrient-based immune system protectors rather than herbal-based immune system boosters. Excellent ones include vitamin D and krill oil.
